Register for the 5K Run/Walk or the 1-Mile Run/Walk (please read and register below)
If you wish to register for either the 5K Run or the 1-Mile Walk, you need to provide information such as your name, gender, age on the day of the run, address and phone number.
After reading the following information about the race, please pay attention to the waiver agreement. This agreement assures that you understand that you bear the responsibility for any injuries you might suffer because of your participation in either the run or walk.
Click on the button below or at the bottom of this page, and you will go to the registration page where you can enter the information requested, plus choose to pay online with a credit card or in person at McRae-Gaines or the morning of the run with a check, money order or cash.
Get Fit Selma! Defeat Diabetes 5K Run/Walk Registration Rates
- K-5th Grade 1/2-Mile Students are $10 each; Team rate $6 each
- Youth and Students through 21 years of age are $15
- Adults 22 years of age and older are $25
Community 1K Walk/Run Registration Rates
- Youth 13 years of age and under are $8.
- Youth 14 years of age and older through Adults are $10.
Your fees pay for the City of Selma Event Permit, timing, t-shirts, and prizes. Thank you for joining us and supporting this health & wellness event in Selma, Alabama.
School Team Fees
Special Team Fees are available to Middle School, High School and College Teams that would like to run or walk. Team forms are available by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Youth Teams under 18 years of age must have adult supervision.
K-5th Grade 1/2-Mile Students are $10 each; Team rate $6 each for 5 or 10-student Teams
How can I register?
There are several ways you can register:
You can register and pay online on the following page (after you click on the “register” button on this page)
You can fill out the registration form available by clicking on the button on the previous page labeled “5K Run/Walk Reg Form” then either hand deliver it with your registration fee to McRae-Gaines Learning Center from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Or you can mail the completed form and registration fee to the school’s mailing address:

Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by Tuesday, September 24, 2019
NOTE: If you register online but do not elect to pre-pay through credit card or PayPal, then you will need to complete payment on race day at the table by the race start/finish line (see next entry). Once again, race day payment will need to be made by check, money order or cash.
Race Day Registration
Begins at 6:30 am at the Wallace Community College Gymnasium and ends at 7:45 am. Shirt selection may be limited on race day.
Our 5K Run starts on Donitha Griffin Drive in front of the WCCS Gymnasium. Runners go north, then west and north again until they reach the Trooper Academy, where they proceed east. The route then turns north after the Trooper Academy and crosses the parking lot in back of the Trooper Academy and comes out onto Merrifield Drive where it turns right to follow Merrifield Drive. Runners should have a police presence along Merrifield Drive. At this turn onto Merrifield Drive, runners have completed about .58 miles.
Now runners proceed east along Merrifield Drive and then turn north still on Merrifield Drive. Here the course keeps going north to the turnaround point that is clearly marked. From this point retrace your steps back onto the campus and the Start/Finish line. The turnaround point is located 1.55 miles from the start.
The 1-Mile Fun Run / Walk (starting at 8:30 am) will be a tour of the WCCS campus.
The courses will be clearly marked with directional signs as well as having volunteers to direct the runners.
The 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk starts and finishes in front of the WCCS Gymnasium.
Runner safety will always be a top priority for our event.
Roller blades and pets are not allowed in the 5K Event.
Use of personal musical devices is strongly discouraged at this race.
Use of baby joggers or strollers is not prohibited but we encourage participants to start behind the runners and walkers.
All participants may register, pay their fees and pick up their race packets on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 9:00 am and 3:00 pm at McRae-Gaines or on race day at the Wallace Community College Gymnasium from 6:30 am to 7:45 am.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st overall M/F and 1st Master M/F (age 50 +) and then by age group in five-year increments starting with age 14 and under up to 70+.
